Jaeger. From Nevada Evening Journal September 29, 1952 (page 1) Death Saturday Of Balus T. Howland Milford Twp. Farmer Balus T. Howland, Ames R. 2, well known farmer of Milford township, died on the Mary Greeley hospital Saturday at 9 p. m. following an emergency operation performed at 6 a. m. for a perforated ulcer, from which he never regained consciousness. A native of Milford township, where he was born of pioneer Story county parents, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. T. D. Howland, he had practically lived his entire life in Milford township. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p. m. at the Adams Funeral Home, with Rev. Robert Pinnell of the Ames First Methodist church officiating. Burial will be in the Nevada cemetery. Mr. Howland who was a member of the Methodist church and was highly esteemed as a fine neighbor and friend, is survived by his wife, Lena, on son Bernice Howland of Denver, Colo. and one daughter Bernita, Mrs. Hiram Ostrander of Knoxville, Tenn. He also leaves tow grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Ada Crooks of Nevada, two nieces, Mrs. Harry Clausen of Ames and Mrs. Earl Christensen of Los Angeles, Calif. and by a wide circle of friends.
