Description	:	Mrs. Barbara McCumber Barbara Ann Wikelman (sic) McCumber, born Feb. 5, 1864, near Northumberland, Pa., departed this life Feb. 18, 1942, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lowell Harris, Newton, aged 78 years, 13 days. She was the fourth in a family of seven, all having preceded her but a sister, Mrs. Emma Williams, of Morrill, Neb. She moved with her parents to Carthage, Ill. when she was 14 years old. She was the fourth in a family of seven, all having preceded her but a sister, Mrs. Emma Williams, of Morrill, Neb. She moved with her parents to Carthage, Ill. when she was 14 years old. Here she grew to womanhood, and was united in marriage to Geo. E. McCumber, Sept. 12, 1884 (sic). In December, 1889, they moved from there to the Scattersburg community east of Moravia, Iowa. The husband coming alone with the livestock and household goods. The young mother and three small children came on the train. A home was built and they became an active part of the community and raised to maturity a family of ten. She accepted Christ as her Saviour during the ministry of Rev. Chester Snider at the Scattersburg school house in 1913. When she with her husband and three youngest daughters moved to Centerville she put her membership in the Christian church there. She was ever faithful to her Saviour, attending church whenever her frail health would permit. In her declining years they moved back to the Scattersburg community where they celebrated their 50th anniversary among the children, neighbors and friends. Since the passing of her husband on Feb. 8, 1935, she has made her home with her children. She leaves to mourn her passing eight daughters and two sons, Mrs. Maude Coltrain, Mrs. Effie Gideon, Mrs. Marie Coltrain, east of Moravia; Mrs. Pearl Stanley, of Nampa, Idaho; John McCumber of Denver, Colo; Harve McCumber, Fleming, Colo.; Mrs. Ruth Harris, Newton, Iowa; Mrs. Alice Selby, Oskaloosa, Iowa; Mrs. Grace Bentrude, Austin, Minn; Mrs. Ileta Tock, Oakville, Ia., also 21 grandchildren living, and 13 great-grandchildren, and many neighbors and friends who remember her as a sweet, frail little lady. Funeral services were held from the Christian church in Moravia Saturday afternoon with H. E. Trimble of Centerville officiating. Burial was at Moravia. ****** Her parents were John Winkleman and Elizabeth Fisher. Barbara and George were married on September 12, 1882 (not 1884), at Carthage, Hancock County, Illinois, pursuant to a copy of her marriage license and accompanying Board of Health document as proof.
