Description	:	Barbara was the daughter of Arthur M. Newell and Hattie P. Cross. On May 26, 1941 in Conway, NH she married George Arnold Hawkins, son of Charles A. Hawkins and Rose Wilkinson. I don't know if they had any children. From Aug 1942 thru Dec 1943 George served in WWII for Massachusetts in the U.S. Army Military Police. Her husband, George, died on Aug 4, 1958 in Conway, NH. I don't know if they had any children. From Aug 1942 thru Dec 1943 George served in WWII for Massachusetts in the U.S. Army Military Police. Her husband, George, died on Aug 4, 1958 in Conway, NH. They were residents of Newton Center, MA when he died suddenly in Conway of a massive heart attack. They were possibly visiting relatives. He is buried in New Berlin City Cemetery in Berlin, NH. Note on George: When he was 11 he received an electrical burn on his hand when he turned on a light after a bad storm. Montreal doctors told them to leave it alone, but Dr. Edward McGee of Berlin told them he could make it as good as new with a graft surgery he had done many times in Germany during the WWI. In 1922 Dr. McGee grafted skin from George's chest, instead of his thigh as he had said, and there were many many complications in his hand and his chest. Also his hand started to grow hair and in later lawsuits it became known as the "hairy hand case", which was made famous by the book and film "Paper Chase" and is now one of the first cases discussed by students studying law in every university in America. It was deemed an unusual cause because the fact that McGee lied to the Hawkins family, because he had actually only witnessed the surgery being preformed in Germany, thus it was not his place to preform this type of surgery on someone. The Hawkins family didn't know this until Gail (Hawkins) Horton, George's niece, entered law school at Boston University Law School in 1964. Despite being a famous case, only the Hawkins family knows the effect on both George, who suffered lifelong emotional distress and was very sensitive about his hand, and his parents truly were.
