Description	:	Barbara Hester Bumps Fletcher, 87, of China, Maine passed away after a lengthy illness early Tuesday morning, October 12th, 2004 at Lakewood Continuing Care Center in Waterville Maine, where she had resided for the last weeks of her life. She was born in China, Maine on May 16, 1917, a daughter of the late Arvide and Susie (Martin) Bumps, one of a large and loving family of 12 brothers and sisters. She married Stanley C. She was born in China, Maine on May 16, 1917, a daughter of the late Arvide and Susie (Martin) Bumps, one of a large and loving family of 12 brothers and sisters. She married Stanley C. Fletcher on November 25, 1935 in China, and they were married nearly 43 years before he passed away on September 17, 1977. She is predeceased by 6 brothers, Ardelle, Carroll, Donald, Glendon, Bernard and Roy and 3 sisters, Marie James, Charlene Young, and Vivian Warner. Barbara is survived by a son, Robert Fletcher and wife, Judy of China, two daughters, Shirley Fitzgerald and husband, Carlton of South China, and Joan Hammond and husband, Joseph of Rio Rico, AZ, and Hampton, NH. She is also survived by one brother, Maxwell Bumps and one sister, Rachel Cunningham both of China. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, Patricia Pratt and companion Julie of Rome, Fredrick Fitzgerald and companion Pat, Betsy Fitzgerald and Linda Clifford all of South China, Cathy Frisbie and husband, Trey of Waldoboro Maine, Betty Sularie and husband, Larry of Vassalboro Maine, David Fletcher and companion Erica of Winslow Maine, Danny Fletcher and wife, Charlene of Pemaquid Maine, Robert Fletcher and companion Tom of Sidney Maine and Lori Devenport and husband Bret of Hampton, NH, also 13 great grandchildren, Bruce Fitzgerald, Derek and Jaimi Clifford, Heather and Justin Sularie, Vanessa and Nathan Frisbie, Scott and Gina fletcher, Seth Fletcher, Kinsey and Taylor Devenport, and Jessica Murray, and 1 great great granddaughter, Jasmine Fletcher. Barbara loved her family and especially enjoyed all of her 32 grandchildren. She was an avid reader and loved solving crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She loved to travel and she and her husband were avid campers and instilled a love of camping into their family. The highlight of the past summer for Barbara was the reunion of the Bumps Family where 178 family members attended and Barbara was the oldest member present and also had the only 5 generation group in the family At her request there will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held on Friday October 15th at 2pm at the Chadwick Hill Cemetery in South China, Maine with Rev. Ronald E. Morrell Sr. officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the China Rescue PO Box 6325 China Village, Maine 04926 c/o Sarah Dow.
