Description	:	Barbara J. O’Neill, 79, Kearney, formerly of Pleasanton, died Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at the Homestead Rehabilitation Center in Lincoln. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, February 26, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Kearney. Father Art Faesser will preside and burial will be at the Pleasanton Cemetery. She attended Kearney High School and graduated in 1956. She married Richard “Dick” O’Neill on May 28, 1960 in Kearney. Dick passed away in 2000. Being the spouse of a teacher/coach, Barbara helped Dick “coach” in Sutherland, Franklin, Lexington and Pleasanton. In Pleasanton, she created scrapbooks of newspaper clippings for the athletes to keep. Barbara worked for several years as the Village Administrator in Pleasanton. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters in Kearney. Barbara was also a member of the Buffalo County Historical Society and very active in genealogy for family and friends. She published a book on the genealogy of the O’Neill family and many family members have been able to pass on wonderful family stories and history to the next generations. Barbara was famous for her flannel blankets and these blankets have been treasured by family and friends for years. Surviving relatives include her children, Mike (Lillian) O’Neill of Lincoln, NE, Kevin (Anita) O’Neill of Gretna, NE, Theresa O’Neill and significant other Jason Winchester of Shelton, NE and Patrick (Wendy) O’Neill of Kearney, NE; 8 grandchildren, Allison (Brandon) Hajek of Elkhorn, NE and Brian O’Neill of Lincoln, NE; Keely (Sean) Tatro of Lander, WY, Kyle O’Neill of Omaha, NE, and Kelsy O’Neill of Lincoln, NE; and Katelynn, Elizabeth and Amanda O’Neill of Kearney, NE and 1 great granddaughter Rylee Hajek of Elkhorn, NE; plus several other extended family and friends. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard “Dick” O’Neill; brother and sister in law, James and Donna Reidy.
