She was born April 26, 1932, in Prenter, Boone County, and was the daughter of the late Rosco Frank and Ruth Ellen Lewis Skeens. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Freddie Maynard. Jr. and Carla Cook of Charleston; daughters and their husbands, Carol Lynn and Bill Coon of Roscoe, Ill., Lana Gail Maynard of Evans, Cindy Ruth and Tommy Cook of Danville, Mindy Sue and Larry Vance of Bald Knob and Theresa Kelly and James Smith of Cottageville; brothers, Frank "Pete" Skeens of Toledo, Ohio, James "Bucky" Skeens of Killeen Texas, Grover Dale Skeens of Virginia and Gary Lewis Skeens of South Charleston; sisters, Shirley L. Massey of Cottageville, Judith Ray Skeens of Sissonville and Gwen Thomas of Virginia; and grandchildren, Renee Coon, Mike Coon, Andrea Bower, Carrie Cook, Stacy Cook, Caitlin Cook, Shannon Cook and Ryan Cook. Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, with Pastor Mark Price officiating. Burial will follow in Jackson County Memory Gardens, Cottageville. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Hubbard Hospice House for the wonderful care they received.
