Description	:	Barbara Mae Sommars was born in 1875 in Iowa to Rachel B. Coffman and Amos P. Sommars. She had 5 brothers and 3 sisters. She went by Mae or May all her life. She grew up in Chickasaw County, Iowa. On 08 Feb 1894 Mae married John Robinson in Floyd County, Iowa. Around 1905 Mae and John and their children moved to Benedict, McLean County, North Dakota. Read More	Barbara Mae Sommars was born in 1875 in Iowa to Rachel B. Coffman and Amos P. Sommars. She had 5 brothers and 3 sisters. She went by Mae or May all her life. She grew up in Chickasaw County, Iowa. On 08 Feb 1894 Mae married John Robinson in Floyd County, Iowa. Around 1905 Mae and John and their children moved to Benedict, McLean County, North Dakota. Mae's father Amos, sister Emma Sommars Hanson and brothers Fred and Mert also lived nearby in North Dakota. In a tragic accident, Mae's husband John was killed on 5 March 1915 at their home. He was savagely attacked by a stallion and died a few hours afterwards. John was 47 years old. Mae Robinson was left with four young children and a small farm. Mae and her two older sons ran the farm single-handedly through many difficult times. The oldest son, Lawrence, said that it was Mae's ability to laugh that got them through those tough times. Mae died 09 Feb 1952 in Bismarck, North Dakota at age 76. She is buried in Fairview cemetery. Susan Swanson Sommars, Contributor # 48418
