Read More	The Dorchester Star, January 20, 1949, Page 1: Mrs. Barbara Kucera, Obituary Barbara Kucera, nee Zumpfe was born November 10, 1878 in Saline County south of Dorchester, Nebr and passed away at the farm home of her son, James Kucera on January 10, 1948 (sic, obvious error) at the age of 72 years and two months. She was married to Vaclav Kucera May 15, 1893 and the young couple began farming south of Dorchester and lived there until 1921 when they moved to a farm northeast of Dorchester. Here Mrs. Kucera lived until her death. She was an invalid for five years and was taken care of by her children. She leaves to mourn her passing two daughters, Mrs. Anton (Mary) Dvorak of Swanton, Nebr. and Mrs. Frank (Henrietta) Brehan of Dallas, Texas, one son, James Kucera, Jr. of Dorchester. Those who preceded her in death were her husband, Vaclav, her parents, Mr. and Ms. Anton Zumpfe, 4 brothers, Frank, Anton, John and Ed Zumpfe and four sisters, Mrs. Mary Urban and Sadie, Anna and Emma died in infancy. Also surviving are four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was a member of Tabor Lodge ZCBJ for many years. Mrs. Kucera was a kind and loving wife and mother and raised a family of good respectable children. She was one of the early pioneers of this vicinity who went through the hardships of the early settlers. Being patient and industrious she helped her husband to be successful so that they could spend their old age in comfort. Funeral services were held Thursday, January 13, 1949 at 2 o'clock p.m. from Tabor Hall, with interment in Pleasant Hill cemetery. F. C. Kucera of Wilber officiated, assisted by Tabor ZCBJ lodge with James Semrad speaking in behalf of the lodge. The Smrz quartette sang. Kuncl funeral home of Crete was in charge.
