Barney Kempers, well-known retired farmer, died at the Sioux Center Community hospital Saturday at the age of 93. He and Mrs. Kempers had celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on March 15. Mr. Kempers had moved into the Nursing Home here only last week. Mrs. Kempers had been admitted there several weeks earlier for special care. Mr. Kempers had been in exceptionally good health until a short time before his passing. Funeral services were held at Bethel Christian Reformed church here at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday and burial was made in the Sioux Center Community cemetery with the Co-operative Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Services were conducted by the Rev. Clarence Van Der Plate. A brief service, attended by members of the immediate family, was held at the Funeral home preceding the service at the church. Mr. Kempers was born July 25, 1869, at Greenleafton, Minn., the son of Gerrit and Dena Kempers, early pioneers in the Sioux territory. The family arrived in Sioux county in 1871, when son, Barney, was only two years of age, hence he had resided in this community for 91 years. He was married to Lillian Rozeboom in Sioux Center on March 15, 1892. Survivors besides his wife include five daughters, Mrs. Dena Broek and Mrs. Minnie Buyert of Sioux Center, Mrs. Johanna Wyngaarden of Boston, Mass., Mrs. Allie Holeman of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Mrs. Betty Geels of Bozeman, Mont., and two sons, Garrett of LeMars and Albert of Sioux Center; 25 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren; and one brother, James Kempers, of Sioux Center.
