He had not been in good health since he suffered a stroke about tree years about, but made daily trips down town right up to the last. Barth Miller was born in Zurich, Graubunden, Switzerland, March 19, 1877, son of Abraham and Christina (Kasper) Miller. He came to the United States in 1882 with his parents, who settled on a homestead farm in Johnson township, Plymouth county, Iowa, where he attended the rural schools, assisted his parents and later managed his father's farm until the latter's death in 1915. On January 28, 1903, Barth Miller was united in marriage with Miss Clara Kallsen, of the same vicinity, and they continued farming his home place, later acquiring additional land in Johnson and Preston townships. For many years he was an extensive farmer and stock raiser, maintaining a purebred Hereford head. Five children came to bless their union, four daughters and one son. During his fifty-four years' residence in Johnson township, Mr Miller took an active part in the civic affairs of the community, serving about fifteen years as township trustee and for several terms was a member and president of the school board. In 1936 Mr and Mrs Miller retired from farming and moved to Akron, which has since remained their home. Mr Miller is survived by his wife and five children, a son, Leonard, of San Diego, Ca. and four Daughters, all of Akron and vicinity, Alma (Mrs John Milbrodt), Emma (Mrs Harry Johnson), Christina (Mrs Clare Morehead), and Mildred (Mrs Frank Johnson): also, by one sister, Mrs Henry Buehre, of LeMars, Ia., and one brother, J G Miller, of LeMars. There are 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mr Miller was preceded in death by two brothers, Peter, who drowned in the Big Sioux river 1898, and Chris, who died in Texas in 1945, also by one sister, Mrs Eva Kallsen. Mr Miller was widely known and respected in the community in which he had lived and served usefully for sixty-four years. He was a kind and devoted husband, a good neighbor and a loyal friend. Funeral services were held Sunday at 3:00 PM in Immanuel Lutheran church here, with a large attendance of friends and relative, a number of latter coming from a distance. The service was conducted by Pastor David J Roy. Hymns were sung by a male quartet comprised of Clifford Johnson, Homer Jacoby, Bob Shoulberg and H.J Behmer. Pallbearers were W.P. Tucker, Calvin Andersen, Russell Clark, Fred Lucken, Ernest Lucken and Fay Port.
