Description	:	Son of Hiram and Elizabeth (Osborn) Ferrand NOTE: the surname can be found spelled also as Ferrand/Farrand/Ferrin - on some of his military papers, his last name is shown as Fern. According to his pension and military papers; he enlisted twice into the Civil War, October 7, 1861 and mustered in as a veteran December 24, 1863, mustered out September 30, 1865. He served in Co B, 35th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. Family stories indicate he was a prisoner of war; however, his pension and military records do not support this claim. According to his pension and military papers; he enlisted twice into the Civil War, October 7, 1861 and mustered in as a veteran December 24, 1863, mustered out September 30, 1865. He served in Co B, 35th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. Family stories indicate he was a prisoner of war; however, his pension and military records do not support this claim. Instead his service time was reduced by 10 months and 21 days due to desertion. Records show he was found guilty of a lesser charge of Absent With Out Leave and remanded to the Provost. Further research finds the dates he was missing match to when his brother Jhile was killed in action. Married Nancy, July 31, 1872 in Vigo County, Indiana Ten known children born to this union - those not linked below were: Hannah Ann Ferran/Strain - b. March 3, 1882 in Vigo County, IN; died January 17, 1955 in Sapulpa, Creek County, OK; buried in South Heights Cemetery, Sapulpa, OK Memorial 22469616 Joseph Blaine Ferran - b. March 5, 1885 in Vigo County, IN; died December 6, 1938 in Terre Haute, Vigo County, IN; buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Terre Haute, IN Memorial 25673228 Martin VanBuren Ferran - b. April 8, 1892 in Prairie Creek, Vigo County, Indiana; died November 15, 1956 in Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana; buried in Bethesda Cemetery in WTH (twin to Elijah/Elige) (note- both twins have different years engraved for their births on their tombstones, Lige shows 1893 while Martin shows 1891)
