Description	:	Beatrice Gandy Smothers, 87, died Sunday, November 16, 2008. Mrs. Smothers was born and raised in Darlington County. Her mother died when she was a small child and she was raised by her father, the late Mr. Columbus Gandy. She was educated in the Darlington County Schools and she later married Mr. William Edward Smothers, Sr. who died in 1991. She only worked outside of the home for a brief period of time. Read More	Beatrice Gandy Smothers, 87, died Sunday, November 16, 2008. Mrs. Smothers was born and raised in Darlington County. Her mother died when she was a small child and she was raised by her father, the late Mr. Columbus Gandy. She was educated in the Darlington County Schools and she later married Mr. William Edward Smothers, Sr. who died in 1991. She only worked outside of the home for a brief period of time. She spent most of her life raising a family and tending the family farm with her husband. She was an excellent cook and prepared many meals for her family from the crops they raised. Her generosity was extended to all she knew. Her children said if you ever visited Mama she would always offer you something to eat and a cup of coffee. She cherished her lifelong church family at Black Creek Baptist Church and it is here her home going will be celebrated. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Smothers was predeceased by two of her children. Her son, Kenneth Smothers died in 1999 and her daughter, Charlene Outlaw, who died earlier this year. Surviving are three sons, William E. Smothers, Jr. and wife, Phoebe of Darlington, Howard Smothers of Dovesville and Stanley Smothers and wife, Wanda of Darlington; one daughter, Carolyn Weatherford and husband, Walter of Darlington; one sister, Margaret Thompson and husband, Alton of Darlington; Her son in law Leo Outlaw of Hartsville and her daughter in law, LaWann Smothers of Darlington; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
