A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, June 13, at the St. Mary’s School gym in David City with the Rev. Bernard Kimminau officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday with a 7 p.m. rosary at Kracl Funeral Chapel in David City and 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the school. Committal will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in David City. Lunch will be served in the city auditorium. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given for Masses. Beatrice M. Polak was born in Prague on July 28, 1917, to Anton and Catherine (Paseka) Stuchlik. She attended country school District #94 and Prague High School. On Aug. 16, 1937, she married James Polak at Plasi. They lived and farmed near Bruno. Bea was a farm wife and enjoyed gardening and caring for her African violets and begonias and loved to bake. She also worked at the Mead Ordnance Plant and Hinky-Dinky Grocery in David City and Columbus for 25 years. Bea was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Prayer Club, Seminarians Club, PCCW, Pink Sisters, VFW Auxiliary and Catholic Workman. In 1985, she was awarded the Aksarben Good Neighbor Award for helping her neighbors. She is survived by her two daughters, Lyla (Dan) Kouma of Seward and Janice (Harry) Crook of Lincoln; one son, Jim (Kathy) Polak of San Dumas, California; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, James Polak (July 1952); two great-great-grandchildren, Jesse Kouma and Logan Ewbank; one sister, Marie Sabata; and two brothers, Joe and Lee Stuchlik.
