Merrill communicated Mrs. Belle W. Merrill, who died May 26 at the home of her son, C. A. Merrill at Dover South Mills after a long and painful illness, was born in Sangerville, February 16, 1849, the daughter of Sumner and Mariam Bray, but lived nearly all her life in Dover. The Piscataquis Observer, 3 Jun 1920, p. 12 Mrs. Belle W. Merrill communicated Mrs. Belle W. Merrill, who died May 26 at the home of her son, C. A. Merrill at Dover South Mills after a long and painful illness, was born in Sangerville, February 16, 1849, the daughter of Sumner and Mariam Bray, but lived nearly all her life in Dover. On Dec. 6, 1869, she was united in marriage with Charles L. Merrill of Dover. To them were born seven children, all living, Chas. A., Ernest F., Guy S., Arthur W., of Dover; Harry B. of Orange, N. J.; Stanley E., and Marion Fairbrother of Foxcroft. She is also survived by her husband, one sister, Mrs. A. H. Lane of Dover, two brothers, S. W. Bray of Milford, Conn., F. S. Bray of Tampa, Fla., also twenty-five grand children, and one great grandchild. The funeral was held May 30 at her old home, Rev. T. J. Coolbroth of Waterville officiating, assisted by Rev. O. S. French of Fort Fairfield, both former pastors of her church [the Dover-Foxcroft Advent Christian Church.] The bearers were her six sons. She sleeps in Jesus, we laid her to rest in Pine Grove cemetery to await the trump of God, when the saints shall come forth in newness of life. Mother was converted when but a girl, and lived a consistent Christian life to the end, which came peacefully at last, as she so often wished it might. She loved her Saviour, and her greatest desire was to see her children give their hearts to Him. She prayed much, and the last words she spoke to the writer were from the Bible. The large gathering at the funeral, and the floral offerings gave evidence of the esteem held for one who loved everybody as our Saviour has taught us.
