FROST DIES AT ARCATA Benjamin Frost, (The Traveler,) of Arcata Bottom, Humboldt county, died at the family home on Friday afternoon, following a brief illness. He was born June 27, 1853, at Hantsport, Nova Scotia, and had spent much of his life in Humboldt county. He was well known in Petaluma and the rural sections where he frequently visited on business. He was married, March 3, 1884, to Augusta Webster in San Francisco. To this union seven children were born, six of whom survive him. Mrs. Frost died eleven years ago. Frost followed the sea for a few years, when a young man. He later engaged in the profession of veterinary surgeon in Arcata and vicinity. Surviving is a brother, George A. Frost, of San Jose; two half-sisters, Mrs. Margaret Wible of Eureka; and Mrs. Eva Ward of Sacramento; six children: Mrs. Merle C. McCann, Mrs. Ernest Schorlig, of Arcata; Mrs. W. F. Pogue, San Jose; Magner M. Frost, Arcata; Dr. Sutro Frost, Napa; Mrs. P. C. Sacchi, Arcata. There are eight grand and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Frost was married to Flora Masters in 1923, who survives him. Dr. Frost’s death came suddenly, due to complications, following an attack of influenza. In Petaluma and the rural districts of Sonoma and Marin counties, Dr. Frost will lovingly be remembered as “The Traveler.” He visited the ranches in the two counties every year and while on his tours chronicled the happenings in the newsy letter signed “The Traveler.” He loved Petaluma and her people. One of his greatest pleasures was to call at the Argus-Courier office where he had made lasting friendships. In other years he had filled large contracts on ranches where he dehorned dairy herds with great success. He was always received at ranch homes most cordially. Of recent years he had retired. He always enjoyed meeting his Petaluma friends who called at his home. Almost until the last he remembered the Argus-Courier with contributions that always brought a message of cheer. Funeral services were held on Sunday at 1:30 o’clock in the afternoon from the First Presbyterian church, Arcata, with Rev. Charles P. Hessel, officiating. The interment was in the Greenwood cemetery.
