Description	:	Benjamin Brown was born July 12, 1838, in Morgan County, Ohio, where he spent his early life. At the age of six his mother died and he and one sister lived with their Grandfather Brown, the other two children living with his mother's parents. Read More	Benjamin Brown was born July 12, 1838, in Morgan County, Ohio, where he spent his early life. At the age of six his mother died and he and one sister lived with their Grandfather Brown, the other two children living with his mother's parents. [Benjamin's parents were Jacob and Mary (Hallowell) Brown. His obituary in the Mount Pleasant Daily News gave his birthplace as Zanesville, Muskingun County, Ohio.] He was married to Sarah Dewess March 24, 1861. To them were born four children, Charles, Mary, who passed away at the age of seventeen, Mrs. Anna McMurren, and Howard. He also took into his home a niece, Mrs. Edith Sater of New London, Iowa, when she was but an infant as his own daughter. [Edith was the daughter of Benjamin's sister Mary R. Brown and her husband, Eugene R. Swain. Mary died when Edith was an infant.] In 1876 with his family he moved to Iowa. His wife Sarah died July 12, 1882. He was married to Hannah Maxwell December 10, 1884. Five children were born to them, Elbert, Frank, who died at the age of twenty-four, Hale, Enos, and Mrs. Alice Breazeale. All of his children were with him during his brief illness. He was taken to Mercy Hospital at Burlington, Friday, August 5, and passed away at that place Tuesday, August 9, 1921, aged 83 years, and 27 days. His wife has been bedfast since April with rheumatism and was unable to be with him at the hospital. He was a member of the Friends Church, always active in all the interests of the church. His kindly jovial disposition won for him a host of friends. Besides the wife and children, he leaves to mourn their loss nine grandchildren, one great grandchild and six half brothers. Funeral services were held Thursday, August 12 at two o'clock at the home and 2:30 at Cedar Creek Church in charge of the pastor A.C. Barrett. -- The Gospel Minister, August 25, 1921, page 5, published at Westfield, Indiana. Mr. Brown was a veteran of the Civil War, and a member of the Ohio Infantry, then being a resident of that state. Two comrades were present at the funeral, Joseph T.
