Union St., died at 10:28 a.m. January 15, 2015, at Hospice House in Ottumwa. He was born February 2, 1932, in Ottumwa to Charles and Sylvia Jackson Johnson. He married Shirley Ann Morgan on October 10, 1953. She preceded him in death on June 10, 2013. A resident of Ottumwa all of his life, he served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He worked for more than 20 years at John Morrell & Co. until the plant closed in 1973. He then worked for more than 20 years at Louden Crane in Fairfield. Ben loved to cook, bake, play cribbage and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. (Family info kept private.) He was preceded in death by a son, David Johnson; three brothers, Lester, Chester and Chuck Johnson; four sisters, Maggie Ware, Margurite Coghlan, Lillian Leonard and Sharon Johnson. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. David Klanderman officiating. Military services will be conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Cremation will follow the services. Private inurnment will be in Shaul Cemetery at a later date. Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Sunday with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
