Ben was born in Elgin on Oct. 5, 1929, to Johannas and Wilhelmina "Minnie" Stumm Wegner. He was the youngest of 12 children. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany from January 1951 until January 1953 during the Korean Conflict. He was a translator for the occupied forces. On April 11, 1954, he married Loretta Jane McMillen. They were married for 47 years, until her death in July 2001, and had three daughters. They resided in Great Falls, Mont., from 1956 until he retired, and they then moved to Helena . He and Loretta served as hosts for the Big Sandy Campground at Hauser Lake for several years. Ben enjoyed outdoor activities, including fishing, boating, camping and hunting. He and Loretta had weekly pinochle games with their very dear friends Betty and Foster Shelton. Ben's greatest love was for his family. He was happiest surrounded by his children and their children. He especially enjoyed the littlest ones. He is survived by his daughters, Connie Jean Wegner, Butte, Mont., Marie Mae Rose, Eagan, Minn., and Peggy Lee Long, Helena ; his grandchildren, Rachel Kay Michel and Jennifer Jane Vinson, both of Kennewick, Wash., Yolanda Maria Crawford, Eagan, Minn., and Celeste Michelle, Amelia Elizabeth and Alexander Benjamin Johnson, all of Eagan, Minn.; five great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Holda Koepplin, New Salem, Ruth Schriock, Minot, and Frieda Huber, Bismarck. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Loretta; his brothers, Jacob, Samuel, John, Emanuel, Reinhold and Julius; and his sisters, Elsie Rekow and Lydia Wegner.
