Description	:	Benjamin F. Lockwood, age 81, of Valley City, North Dakota, died Wednesday March 25, 2009 at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City under the care of Hospice of The River Valley. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Monday March 30, 2009 in St. Catherine Catholic Church in Valley City with Reverend Michael Schommer celebrant. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Sunday evening in The Lerud-Johnson-Schuldt Funeral Home in Valley City. Interment will be in St. Catherine's Cemetery in Valley City later in the spring. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM Sunday in the Lerud-Johnson-Schuldt Funeral Home and one hour before services in the church Monday morning. Benjamin Franklin Lockwood was born June 25, 1927 at Rogers, North Dakota, the son of AI and Myrtle (Eagle) Lockwood. He attended school at Rogers, North Dakota Hobart Township and Green Township all in Barnes County near Valley City. He farmed at Rogers, Green Township and near Hastings, North Dakota. Ben entered the United States Army on January 25, 1946 at Ft. Snelling, Minnesota. After being honorably discharged on April 28, 1947 at Camp Stoneman, California Ben returned to The Valley City area where he drove a semi-truck transport to the west coast. Ben married Lucy O'Brien on May 9, 1957 at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Valley City. The family lived at Litchville, North Dakota, Berea (near Valley City) and moved to Valley City in 1975. Ben worked for Oscar Blumer Construction. He later worked for The Barnes County Highway Department until his retirement. After his retirement, Ben worked for area farmers. Ben was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church, The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2764, The VFW Color Guard, The Valley City American Legion, The AmVets, The Cooties of The VFW, The Valley City Eagles and The Sheyenne Valley Sno-Drifters which at one time he served as president. Ben enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, fixing cars and most of all his grandchildren. Ben is survived by his wife, Lucy, Valley City, three sons Tom (Ramona) Lockwood, Valley City, Tim (Diane) Lockwood, Valley City and Mike (Kathy) Lockwood Valley City, two daughters, Brenda (David) Moritz, Jamestown and Ann Lockwood, Valley City, one sister Midge Anderson, West Fargo, six grandchildren, Levi Lockwood, Mandan, ND, Kyle Uecker, Valley City, Jebidiah Lockwood, Fargo, Jessica Moritz, Jamestown, Shane Anderson, Valley City and Benjamin Lockwood, Valley City, three great grandchildren Caleb Lockwood, Mandan, Brandon Lockwood also of Mandan and Katherine Lockwood, Fargo. 0 Ben was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, four sisters and one daughter-in-law Rachel Lockwood.
