Last Saturday morning about 11:30, Benjamin Kochenower died at his home in Hope. He had been ill for many weeks and his death had been hourly expected for several days before he passed away. Most of his children were here to comfort him in his last hours. Mr. Kochenower had been a resident of Dickinson county about thirty-one years, coming here from Pennsylvania in 1878. He was a prosperous farmer, and in 1900 retired from active life, coming to Hope to live. He was well known all over this end of the county. Benjamin Kochenower was born in York county, Pennsylvania, March 28, 1838, being 71 years, 4 months, and 10 days old at the time of his death. He was married in 1858 to Elizabeth Fink, from which union five sons and three daughters are now living. His first wife died in November, 1895, and he was again married in Feb. 1897 to Louisa Anderson. She also survives him. The children are William and Joseph of Hope; Mrs. Mary Brandt of Hope; Allison Kochenower of Princeton; Mrs. Ellen Moyer of Princeton; George Kochenower of Abilene; Elmer of Omega, Oklahoma; and Mrs. Clara Oyster of Ramona. The funeral was held Tuesday. After a short service at the house beginning at nine o'clock, during which time the business houses of the town were closed in his honor, the remains were taken to the Belle Springs church where services were conducted by Rev. Campbell and Rev. S. B. Wingerd. Interment was made in the Belle Springs cemetery. The out of town relatives here to the funeral were Allison Kochenower and Mrs. Moyer of Princeton, Mr. and Mrs. George Kochenower and Alfred Moyer, of Abilene, Eli Oyster and four children from Ramona, and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Anderson from Lindsborg.
