When a small boy he moved with his parents in a covered wagon to South Dakota, then to Kansas and back to Nebraska. The family settled on a farm on the Blue River in York county, northeast of McCool Junction, where he grew to manhood. For a while the family lived northwest of York where he lost his mother. At an early age Mr. Creech joined the Bethel United Church where he kept his membership as long as Bethel Church existed. In 1913 he went to Butler County to work. Later he and his brother, James, farmed together North of David City on the Henry Hookstra farm until he was inducted into the army in the fall of 1917. He received his training at Camp Funston, Kansas, and Camp Cody, NM. His company was sent overseas in June, 1918. He spent a year in France in the Army Occupation. He also served a few months in the Cavalry. His unit was on the "front lines" and ready to go over "the top" when orders came to "cease fire" at 11 a.m., November 11, 1918. He spent 23 months in World war I and received his discharge at Camp Jackson on July 1, 1919. On August 2, 1919, Benjamin and Fern Isabel McClatchey were married in the Christian Church at Aurora, Nebraska. They went to Butler county where they lived on the same farm for 27 years. In 1947 poor health forced Mr. Creech to retire. He and Mrs. Creech moved to 60 Grant Ave., York, Nebr., where they made their home until his passing away in the Veteran's Hospital, Lincoln, at age of 78 years, two months and 20 days. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Fern; three daughters, Mrs. George (Elaine) Borchers of Columbus; Rose Marie Creech of Lincoln; and Virginia Mae Donner of San Diego, Calif, at the home at present; one son, Benjamin Roscoe Creech, Jr., of Silver Spring, Md; four grandchildren, David and Donna Jean Borchers of Columbus; HMC Robert Allen Creech, serving with the Navy on ship in Caribbean Sea at present; Mrs. Mike (Yvonne) Cruse, Wasco, Calif; and two great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. George (Muriel) Cochran, Grand Junction, Colo: one brother, J. B. Creech, Seilin, Okla, and a great many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, a step-mother; seven brothers; two sisters and several nieces and nephews. Internment was at Vernon (Petitus) Cemetery with semi-military funeral conducted by the American Legion.
