Oelwein Daily Register \| Oelwein, Iowa \| Thursday, May 04, 1939 \| Page 4 (not complete but this article is the source) BENJAMIN TAYLOR, son of Thomas and Ann Taylor, was born in Walton, England, Jan. 27, 1846. He came to America at the age of 20, locating at Silver Creek. Dec. 25, 1872 he was united in marriage to MAGGIE LENDRUM, daughter of James and Elizabeth Lendrum [who] was born Feb. 7, 1848 in Pittsburgh, Pa. She came with her parents to Silver Creek in 1852 where she resided with her parents until Dec. 25, 1872 when she was united in marriage to Benjamin Taylor, of Silver Creek. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor were the last survivors of their families. Living in the community of Silver Creek a short time, they moved to Buchanan Co. residing on a farm that they had purchased, 1 1/2 miles east of Aurora. To them were born three sons and three daughters. All are living. They are: Bessie Knapp, Mattie Christler and James of Aurora, Nellie Canfield, Hazleton, Will, of Oelwein, and Reuben, of Long Beach, Calif. Mr. Taylor united with the Episcopal church in England. Mrs. Taylor united with the Methodist church in childhood and always enjoyed attending services as long as she was able. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor were taken into the Aurora M. E. Church under the pastoral of Rev. J. J. Kidder. In April 1910 they moved to their home in Aurora where they resided until their deaths, which occurred 6 hours apart late Saturday night and early Sunday morning, April 22 and 23, 1939. This esteemed couple always enjoyed visits with their children and numerous friends. Mr. Taylor was a great lover of his garden This worthy couple celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on Dec. 25, 1938 with their children and friends. They had been active until 5 weeks ago when she suffered a heart attack. Mr. Taylor suffered a stroke on Friday from which he never regained consciousness. The death of Mr. and Mrs. Taylor takes away a most worthy and esteemed couple of this community. They are survived by their 6 children, 4 grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the Aurora Methodist church Tuesday afternoon on April 25 at 2 o'clock with the Rev. G. Goodrich officiating. Mesdames R. R. Allen and C. H. Jackway sang, "In the Garden" and "Abide With Me." Those in charge of the flowers were Mrs. S. Krussell, Mrs. Chas. Kivell, Jr., Mrs. J. F. Loeck, Mrs. Howard Heywood. Pall bearers were: Levi Longnecker, Leslie Knapp, George Richardson, Ben Maudlin, Charles Kivell, Jr. , Charles Mosher, W. A. Gibson, L. Finkenbinder, Ed Fry, Guy Bradley and Frank Dodge. Burial was made in Madison Cemetery.
