Berdina was born October 9, 1922 to Florence E. (Bryant) and Edwin J. Dannenberger near Colo, Iowa. She graduated from Colo High School with the class of 1939. Berdina was born October 9, 1922 to Florence E. (Bryant) and Edwin J. Dannenberger near Colo, Iowa. She graduated from Colo High School with the class of 1939. On May 23, 1940 in Boone, Iowa, she married her high school sweetheart, Thomas Ray Granger of Colo. After marriage, the newlyweds moved to California where she was employed by North American Aviation. After Ray joined the Air Force during WW II, the young couple lived in Texas and Oklahoma. They returned to Colo to begin their career in farming after the war. Retirement found Berdina and Ray enjoying winters in Florida where they loved hosting family and friends who traveled there. Berdina is survived by her loving husband of nearly 72 years, Ray and two daughters, Susan K. McKinney (Keith) of Colo and Cynthia R. Willemsen (Ron) of Pella. She was blessed with four grandchildren, Alissa McKinney (Matt Gannon) of Des Moines, Ryan McKinney (Katy) of Colo, Monica Erling (Seth) of Minneapolis, MN and Todd Willemsen (Jessica) of Prairie Village, KS. Sources of joy in her later years were her great grandchildren who lovingly called her Gi-Gi, Emma and Isabel Buchanan, Jack and Sam McKinney, Jacob and Claire Willemsen and Emmett and Eleanor Erling. She loved her family and loved playing games with them, especially dominoes and Yahtzee. Berdina was a faithful member of the Colo United Methodist Church, Isabelle Chapter Order of the Eastern Star #271, Madon Shrine #38, United Methodist Women, American Legion Auxiliary, Colo BF & T Club and Colo Priscilla Bridge Club. Her hobbies were cooking, bridge, gardening, and watching college basketball. She was homemaker extraordinaire who was famous for her apple pie and chocolate chip cookies. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Wanda Ricks of Oregon. Berdina was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her. Family visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4 at the Colo United Methodist Church where a Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 5. Burial will take place in the Colo Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Colo United Methodist Church or the Colo First Responders.
