Description	:	Berdine M. Thies, 82, of Sterling died Tuesday morning, April 21, 2015 at Gold Crest Retirement Center in Adams. She was born on October 23, 1932 at Syracuse and graduated from Syracuse High School in 1950. She worked as a nurse at a doctor's office in Syracuse. She married Raymond Thies on February 14, 1953 at St. Mary Catholic Church at St. Mary. She worked at Campbell Soup in Tecumseh and they moved onto the Horns' family farm. Thies, 82, of Sterling died Tuesday morning, April 21, 2015 at Gold Crest Retirement Center in Adams. She was born on October 23, 1932 at Syracuse and graduated from Syracuse High School in 1950. She worked as a nurse at a doctor's office in Syracuse. She married Raymond Thies on February 14, 1953 at St. Mary Catholic Church at St. Mary. She worked at Campbell Soup in Tecumseh and they moved onto the Horns' family farm. They lived in Lincoln and she worked at the grocery store for many years. In 1973, they moved to the acreage near Sterling and she began raising several small breed dogs. She attended St. John's Lutheran Church in Sterling. She enjoyed quilting and her family. Survivors include five sons, Normand Thies and wife Shirlene, Lawrence Thies and wife Sheila, Mike Thies and wife Lola, Dan Thies and wife Kathy and Terry Thies and wife Brenda; two daughters, Diane Hubbard and husband Cotton and Catherine Hier and husband Mark; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one sister, Irene Burbach; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Alma Riege Horns; her husband Raymond, who died January 28, 2015; grandson, Leslie Hubbard; four brothers-in-law, Ervin Burbach, Normand, Ernest and Harold Thies; two sisters-in-law, Flora Coffey and Rosalie Belford. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, April 24, 2015 at St. John's Lutheran Church of Sterling with Pastor Steve Chellew officiating. Burial will be at the Sterling Cemetery of Sterling. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. on Friday in the church basement. A memorial has been established to the family's choice. The body will lie in state at the Zink-Fox Funeral Home from 8:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday and at the church one hour preceding the services on Friday. A guestbook for signatures and messages of condolence is available online at www.foxfuneralhome.net. Zink-Fox Funeral Home of Sterling is in charge of the arrangements.
