Description	:	Berent was born to Dirk Folkerts and Antje Berends (Schulte) Burma. Berent married Trientje Nuttbrock on Mar. 20, 1871 in Ackley, IA. 8 children were born to this union; Anna M., John Henry, Effie Dena, Hermina Berendine, Melinda "Mata" Emma, Anna Katherine, Dick and Henry B. Berent attained the age of 74 years 8 months and 2 days. The following is from the Lennox Diamond Jubilee Book. Berend Burma was born in Ostfriesland, Germany, May 23, 1844, and came to the United States in 1865, locating at Freeport, IL. Two years later he went to Ackley, IA., where he was married March 20, 1871 to Miss Katie Nuttbrock. The couple continued their residence near Ackley until 1880 when they cams to Dakota Territory and settled on a farm one mile south of Lennox. There they continued their duties for 25 years and in 1905 they left the farm and took up their home here. Mr. Burma passed away January 25, 1919. Mrs. Burma was born (Katie Nuttbrock), December 1, 1854, at Washings Fan, Ostfriesland, Germany, and when she was but two years of age came to America with her parents, locating in the vicinity of Rockford and Baileyville, IL. In 1868 they moved to Ackley, Iowa. Eight children were born to this, couple, reading as follows: Dick, Henry, and John Burma, Mrs. Hero (Anna) Van Loh, and Mrs. John (Effie) Osterloo, all of whom have passed away, and three presently surviving: Mata (Mrs. Jerry Geersema), Minnie (Mrs. Elso Kroger), and Katie Burma of Iroquois, S. D. Mrs. Burma continued to make her home in Lennox until February, 1931, when she and a daughter (Katie) moved onto a farm near Iroquois, where she resided until her death. She was a gold star mother, a son (Henry) losing his life while in the services during the World War. The Lennox Brethorst-Burma American Legion post bears his name. Mrs. Burma died October 9, 1938 (at Iroquois) at the age of 84 years, 10 months and eight days. She was buried here.
