Funeral services will be held at Windfall next Friday afternoon. Mr. Parish, son of Charles and Elizabeth Smith Parish, was born August 2, 1902, in Windfall, where he grew to young manhood. His mother died when he was seven years of age. He attended the Windfall school and in high school was one of the most popular students. He was a star basketball player, a gifted orator and the possessor of a jovial disposition. There was much sadness when he left the classroom to join the United States forces, responding to the call to the colors when ex-Judge C.W. Mount of Tipton was organizing a company of Infantry. He was mustered into service September 9, 1917,after he reached the age of 15 on August 1. While in training at Hattiesburg, Miss., he sustained a slight injury, but this did not deter his leaving for overseas on May 1, 1918, with Co C, 152nd Infantry, 26th division, and some time after Berl's enlistment, his father, Charles Parish, enlisted in the coast artillery. Berl Parish had a war record equaled by few in Indiana. He was possibly the youngest World War veteran in Indiana. He was in five major engagements on the front lines. He was also on the defensive sector and at Sucheprey was badly wounded and gassed. For five long months he was in a hospital when the armistice was signed. The French authorities awarded him the Croix de Guerre medal for his gallant service. Mr. Parish was married to Miss Crystal Webb, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Webb of the Sandbank community.
