Description	:	Bernadette Magdalene "Sue" Carraher, 88, of Spalding died Sunday, March 20, 2011, at the Boone County Health Center in Albion. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding, with the Revs. Don Buhrman and Jim Murphy officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church with a rosary at 7. Dolce-Scheef Mortuary of Spalding is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Carraher was born Jan. 26, 1923, at Spalding to Frank and Mary (May) Kaiser. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Carraher, on May 10, 1995. Survivors of the immediate family include five daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Dan Bloom of Spalding, Diane and Fred Thanel of Sioux Falls, S.D., Mary and Mark Mailander of Rapid City, S.D., Maureen and Tim Haggerty of O'Neill and Colleen and Bob Dutcher of Greeley; five sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Bonnie Carraher, Mark and Sharon Carraher, all of Spalding, Mike and LuAnn Carraher of Grand Island, Denny and Kathy Carraher of Gretna, Joe and Annette Carraher of Primrose; 36 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. Additional survivors include a brother-in-law, R.P. (Pat) Carraher of Spalding; sisters-in-law, Margaret Carraher of Columbus, Teresa Keuter of Columbus and Adele Carraher of Florida. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding and graduated from Spalding Academy in 1940. She babysat in Omaha for a short time before returning to the Spalding area where she taught for three years at District 19 School in Wheeler County (The Stucco School House). On May 26, 1943, Sue was united in marriage with Thomas Paul Carraher at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding. The couple made their home in Spalding until moving to the farm in 1947. Sue worked in the home while raising her children. In 1972, she began working at Friendship Villa as a Certified Nurse Aide and continued to work there until she retired in 1995. Sue enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with gardening, bowling, reading, playing cards and watching NFL football. Sue was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Benedicta Hendrickson; four brothers, John, Otto, Richard and Ralph Kaiser; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
