Read More	Bernadina was the daughter of Bernard Stallmann and Katharina (Catherina) Bernardina Siemer. She married Herman Dopheide on February 21, 1882. They were the parents of Theodore, Henry, John, Clara, Elizabeth, Edward, Frances, Marie, George, Johanna, Teresa, and Irene. Carroll Times - Wednesday July 31, 1929 - Mrs. Herman Dopheide, of this city, mother of J. B. Dopheide, well known abstractor and insurance man, died at her home, 126 South Walnut street, Saturday night, July 27, 1929, at 11:36 o'clock. Mrs. Dopheide underwent an operation at the St. Anthony hospital on June 21 and spent a month in the hospital following the ordeal. Ten days ago she was taken to her home and was apparently getting along nicely. Saturday afternoon she sat up part of the time and spent a little while on the back porch, looking at her garden. About 6:30 in the evening she was taken with terrific pain, and was in great distress until she was relieved by death. The last half hour before her passing she became unconscious, and remained in that condition until the end. Mrs. Dopheide, as Bernardlna Stallman, was born at Baken Vechta, Oldenburg, Germany, January 21, 1864. When 14 years of age she came to America with her mother and sister, Mrs. Frank Kerkhoff. A cousin, Mrs. J.J. Heller, also accompanied them. They came directly to Carroll county, where they located on a farm near Templeton. Mrs. Dopheide had been in this country, but four years when her marriage to Herman Dopheide took place, on February 21, 1882. The young couple located on a farm four miles northeast of Templeton. Later they sold the place and bought another farm one-half mile northeast of Templeton. In 1902 the family moved to Murray county, Minn., where they lived on a farm four years. They then returned to a farm one-halt mile southeast of Templeton, where they resided until eleven years ago, at which time they bought a beautiful home in Carroll and moved to this city. Mrs. Dopheide was prominent in the SS. Peter and Paul church circles and in the Rosary sodality. She was a devout Catholic, and died fully fortified with the last Sacraments. She was an energetic, ambitious woman, a great lover of her home, and derived much pleasure from the companionship of her children. Of the thirteen children born to Mr. and Mrs. Dopheide, twelve are living. Theodore, the third eldest In the family, died when 6 years old. The surviving are Henry B. Dopheide, J. B. Dopheide, Mrs. Paul Mueller, Johanna Dopheide, and Theresa Dopheide of Carroll; Mrs. J.J. Friedman, Ogalalla, Neb.; George F. Dopheide, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. C.J. Polking, Breda; Elizabeth Dopheide, E. B. Dopheide, Mrs. William O'Connor and Irene Dopheide, Omaha. Mr. Dopheide died In this city July 19, 1925. Three brothers also survive: Clem Stallman, Carroll; T.P. Stallman, of Ashton and Henry Stallman of Oskaloosa. Another brother, Bernard Stallman, died many years ago, and the sister, Mrs. Frank Kerkhoff, died November 2, 1926. Funeral services were held at the SS. Peter and Paul church Tuesday morning at 8:30 o'clock, Rev. L. Schenkelberg being in charge of the requiem mass. All the children were present with the exception of George F., of Los Angeles, who was prevented from coming because of illness in the family.
