Offertory gift bearers will be Donna Larson, Shelly Jutila, and Cindy Maxwell. Visitation will begin 5:00 PM Thursday with a 7:00 PM Wake Service at the Church. Bernadine Gertrude Kaiser, daughter of Eva (Schaefer) and Bernard Kaiser, was born at her parent's farm 4 miles east of Hoven on May 5, 1925. She was raised on the farm and attended St. Anthony's Parochial School in Hoven through 8th grade. Following her education, she worked as a hired girl for neighboring families. She married Leo P. Van Well at Hoven on June 20, 1945. They settled on Leo's farm 4 miles south of Hoven. This is where they lived until 1981 when they moved into Hoven. Bernadine worked many years in the credit card division of the Bank of Hoven. Bernadine moved to the Oahe Manor in October 2010. She was a member of St. Anthony's Church and St. Anthony's Altar Society. She also belonged to the Hoven Senior Center and the Hoven Legion Auxiliary. When younger she did lots of sewing, crocheting, and knitting. She especially liked playing cards. Bernadine is survived by two sons—Kenneth L. (Darlene) Van Well of Hoven and Gregory (Cindy) Van Well of Lisbon, ND; 1 daughter Theresa (William) Welch of Pierre, SD; 1 sister Agnes Rausch of the Faulkton, SD Healthcare Center; 14 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandson. She was preceded in death by her father on October 18, 1976, her mother on August 5, 1953, her husband on July 27, 2005, 2 brothers (Albert and Hubert), and 2 granddaughters (Julie and Janine Van Well). Honorary bearers will be the Hoven American Legion Auxiliary. Casketbearers will be Tom Van Well, Tim Welch, Jeremy Van Well, and Jim Van Well of Sioux Falls, SD, Chris Van Well of Ellsworth AFB, SD, and Jason Welch of Pierre. Lien Funeral Home, Bowdle, is in charge of arrangements.
