Arrangements are pending with Brosh's, Norway. +++ The Cedar Rapids Gazette, IA, Thursday, December 11, 1997, pg. 14, col. 4 This is an excerpt from the full obituary: Bernard Charles Schulte was born April 6, 1915, to John C. and Dora Frese Schulte in their farm home south of Norway, Iowa. He married Sylvia Jane Brockschink on July 30, 1941, in Norway. Bernard C. Schulte, farmer, raised purebred registered Hereford hogs and Polled Hereford cattle, and was past president, vice president and director of National Hereford Hog Record Association. He was also past director of Southeast Iowa Polled Hereford Association. A World War II Army veteran with the 7th Division, he received the Purple Heart and two battle stars. He was Norway school board director for six years and president for one year, director of F.S. Inc. for nine years, Florence Township trustee for over 30 years in Benton County, member of COF, Farm Bureau member for 55 years, 4-H leader for 15 years and honorary member in 1978, active in the Democratic Party, member of American Legion No. 234 for over 50 years, direction of Benton County Health Improvement Association nine years and also served as president. He was a life member of DAV. He received his education at St. Michael's Catholic School. In his retirement from farming he donated hours to beautiful cemeteries in the Norway area. Bernard enjoyed nature, outdoors, gardening and picking blackberries along with other berries. Bernard also really enjoyed traveling and visiting state fairs, cattle and hog shows and sales. Bernard always loved his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bernard was preceded in death by his son, Alvin Bernard Schulte, April 18, 1987; a grandson, Eric Thomas Schulte, June 25, 1977; his parents; mother, Dora Frese Schulte, April 29, 1964, and father, John C. Schulte, May 22, 1980; a brother, George A. Schulte, Feb. 9, 1936; and a sister, Marcella Schulte Montague, March 10, 1994. Instead of flowers, the family asks that friends plant a tree in his memory, or make donations to the 4-H Foundation, the church or cemetery of your choice, Catholic Charity, Camp Courageous, or any other charity of your choice. A lunch will be provided after the burial at Norway Legion Hall.
