Heyne, Sr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Heyne, was born April 23, 1894, on the Heyne homestead north of Hooper, Nebraska. He passed away at his home at Bancroft on Thanksgiving day at the age of 50 years, 7 months and 7 days. He was married to Hannah Geratewohl on March 1, 1917, at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Heyne, Sr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Heyne, was born April 23, 1894, on the Heyne homestead north of Hooper, Nebraska. He passed away at his home at Bancroft on Thanksgiving day at the age of 50 years, 7 months and 7 days. He was married to Hannah Geratewohl on March 1, 1917, at St. John’s Lutheran Church. The service was performed by the bride’s father, Karl Gerathewohl. To this union four children were born. He farmed his entire life with the exception of four years when he operated a meat market in Winslow, Nebraska. He has lived at Hooper, Lyons and Bancroft. He was seriously for only two weeks in a Sioux City hospital, but was brought home the Wednesday preceding his death. He is survived by his wife Hannah, three sons, Clinton in the Army Air Corps in Italy, Donald and Bernard Jr., at home, and one daughter, Eletha, now Mrs. Leroy Zimmerman of Lincoln. Also surviving are one brother, Wm. Heyne of Uehling and one sister, Mrs. Wm. Havekost of Hooper. Short services were held in the Bancroft mortuary. Burial was in the St. Paul’s Lutheran cemetery at Hooper. Mr. and Mrs. Heyne celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary two years ago. Relatives and friends attended the funeral from Omaha, Holdrege, Beatrice, Nickerson, Bancroft, Pender, Hooper, Lyons, Scribner and Lincoln. Pall bearers were Charles Pearson and Charles Keifer of Lyons, Russell Bonneau, Paul Bliemeister, Ernest Person, Otto Herrmann of Bancroft. __ CARD OF THANKS We wish to express our sincere thanks to the neighbors and friends for their sympathy and aid during the sickness and death of our beloved husband and father. '''''''''''''''''' Fremont Guide and Tribune (Fremont, Nebr.), December 8, 1944, p. 2, col. 4 Bernard Heyne Buried at Hooper HOOPER – Last rites for Bernard Heyne were held Monday afternoon from the St. Paul Lutheran church with Rev. Hugo Welchert officiating. Bernard Christofer Heyne, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Heyne, was born April 23, 1894, at Hooper on the Heyne home place. In 1909 he renewed his baptism vow by confirmation in the St. Paul Lutheran church. He grew to manhood in this community and on March 1,1917 married Hannah Gerathowohl. Four children were born to them. For a few years Mr. Heyne farmed south of Hooper. Because of ill health he moved his family to Winslow, where he managed a meat market. Later the Heyne family then returned to the home place and lived there for eight years, then moving to Lyons and from there to the present location southwest of Bancroft. In 1942 Mr. and Mrs. Heyne observed their 25th wedding anniversary. Two years ago Mr. Heyne was hospitalized and since then under a physicians care. Survivors include his widow, Hannah Heyne; three sons, Clinton in the air corps in Italy, and Donald and Bernard at home, a daughter, Mrs. Leroy Zimmerman of Lincoln; one brother, William Heyne of Uehling; and one sister, Mrs. William Havekost of Hooper.
