He was the son of John Henry Murray and Mary Frances Kelly. He was born on February 4, 1898 and lived on Greene Street in East Greenwich for many years. Bernard received his early education in the Town of East Greenwich Schools and graduated from the East Greenwich Academy. After graduating, he conpleted the courses at the Rhode Island School of Pharmacy. About 1924 he opened a drug store on Main Street in East Greenwich called Murray's. Bernard married Gladys Cook of West Warwick, Rhode Island and they had two sons, Bernard Murray and Thomas R. Murray. They lived on Knollwood Avenue in East Greenwich until sometime in the 40's when he sold his store and home and moved to California for a bit. Upon his return to Rhode Isalnd, he made his home in West Warwick and opened antoher drugstore in Providence until his health became impaired. Bernie and Gladys also had a daughter, Arleen Murray, who was born in 1940 and died as an infant in 1940. Unfortunately, it seems that Bernard was not the best husband, often drinking too much, which led to he and Gladys getting divorced. There is also a story of Bernard making moonshine. Bernard F. Murray was also a member of Our Lady of Mercy Church in East Greenwich, Rhode Island.Bernard died at Rhode Island Hospital where he underwent a very serious operation (according to his obituary in the East Greenwich Pendulum). He had been a patient at the hospital for six weeks or more and from the beginnning his condition was considered most grave. Bernard was 48 years-old at the time of his death and he is buried in Saint Patrick's Cemetery in East Greenwich.
