Description	:	Bernard & Josephine immigrated in 1890. They were the parents of Heinrich (b1879). August 24, 1931 - Roselle - Bernard H. Grotte (spelled this way in the paper), for many years a resident of this place, died Saturday evening at 6 o'clock in his home. He had been in falling health for three months and the last two weeks had been unable to leave his bed. The cause of his death was advanced age with complications. Grotte (spelled this way in the paper), for many years a resident of this place, died Saturday evening at 6 o'clock in his home. He had been in falling health for three months and the last two weeks had been unable to leave his bed. The cause of his death was advanced age with complications. He died well fortified with the last rites of the Catholic church. Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock in Holy Angel's church with the Rev. Father Louis Anthofer celebrating requiem high mass. Burial will be in Holy Angels cemetery by the side of his wife. Bernard H. Grotte, son of John H. Grotte was born May 27, 1847, at Vestrop, Germany. During the years 1870 and 1871 be served in the war between France & Germany. He was united in marriage to Mary Josephine Pankhurst at Bakum, Germany May 30, 1876 & in 1890 Mr & Mrs Grotte came to the US. Mr Grotte worked for a year on the section of the North Western Railway company. In 1891 they settled on a farm near Templeton in Eden township and lived there for 14 years. The family removed in March 1905, to Morris, Minn and located on a farm near that place. They resided until 1907 when Mr. Grotte retired from the farm. Their son, Henry Grotte, took charge of the place. Mr. and Mrs. Grotte came to Roselle and for 18 years. The former served as janitor of Holy Angels parish, retiring from the work in 1925. Mrs. Grotte died June 24, 1925 and from that time on Mr. Grotte lived alone. Two children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Grotte, Johanna Bernadine, who died at the age of 18 on Oct. 15, 1885, at Templeton and the son Henry Grotte living on the home place near Morris, Minn. Mr. Grotte was a member of the Rosary society of Holy Angels church, and was a devout Catholic. His son was at the bedside of his father during his last illness.
