State St., who died Tuesday (Nov. 29, 1988) at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Mason City, of natural causes. The Rev. Daniel J. Keppler will officiate and burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City, where full military honors will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., where a Scripture wake will be held at 7 tonight. The family requests memorial be made to Pheasants Forever, Box 1264, Mason City. Mr. Barr was born April 11, 1917, in Dougherty to Ben and Ella (Bamrick) Barr. He attended rural schools in Dougherty and graduated from St. Patrick's High School in Dougherty. Mr. Barr enlisted in the U.S. Navy in January 1942 and served as an aviation machinist 1st Class on the U.S.S. Card. He married Shirley T. Evans on June 30, 1944 at Norfolk Naval Base in Norfolk, Va. After his discharge from the service in September 1945, they returned to Mason City where he began work at Northwestern States Portland Cement Co. He was employed there for 36 years and retired in 1981, as a supervisor. Mr. Barr was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, American Legion Post No. 101 and VFW Post No. 733, Mason City. Survivors include his wife, Shirley, Mason City; one daughter, Mary Susan Morgan, Elmhurst, Ill.; four sons, John Evans Barr, Denver, Colo., Thomas A. Barr, Pueblo, Colo., Paul Andrew Barr, Marshalltown, and Stephen Michael Barr, Alexandria, La.; 12 grandchildren; and five brothers, Joseph Vincent Barr, Hampton, Edward Barr, Rockwell, Joseph Francis Barr, St. Cloud, Minn., and Jerome Charles Barr, Ames. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
