Bernice Almira Barber was born Dec. 9, 1904, in Hale Township, Jones County, Iowa, the daughter of Edgar Lee and Jennie Mae Taylor Barber. She was schooled in the Wyoming schools and married Lester Dewey French in 1923. To this marriage, they had three children, Ivan, Donald and Eileen, who have all preceded her in death. Bernice lived most of her life near Wyoming, Iowa, until moving to the Anamosa Care Center in 1996. Bernice was a member of the Wyoming Presbyterian Church. Bernice is survived by a son-in-law, Royal Snyder of Marion; a daughter-in-law Betty French of Buffalo, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Wayne Snyder and wife Barbara of Maryville, MO., Jennifer Atkinson of Colesburg, Gary French and wife Christine of Davenport, Larry, Marcia and Mary French, also of Davenport, and William French and wife Diane of Peoria, Ill. Bernice had 16 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and two nephews and one niece, Dr. Bruce Eldon Spivey of San Francisco, Calif., Daryl Lee Spivey of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Sue Ellen McCormac of Manchester. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester; three children, Ivan, Donald and Eileen; two sisters, Grace Loretta Spivey and Ruth Louise McCormac; one grandson, Dennis French; one great-granddaughter, Stacie French; and one nephew, Richard Lee McCormac. Casket bearers are Gary, Larry and William French, Aaron Atkinson, Wayne Snyder and David Ingels. Honorary casket bearers are Daryl and Dr. Bruce Spivey
