Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 8, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Donald Hertges officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Merrick, 95, of Dyersville, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at Oak Crest Manor, Dyersville, after a brief illness. Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 8, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Donald Hertges officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where an American Legion Auxiliary/Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary/Order of Martha Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. and a parish scripture service will be at 5 p.m. She was born on April 20, 1913, in Dyersville, daughter of John and Cecelia (Grawe) Klostermann. She married Glenn Merrick on July 27, 1937, in Dyersville; he preceded her in death in 1976. Bernice worked as a clerk for the JC Penney Co. for 28 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 137, VFW Auxiliary Post 7736 and the Order of Martha. Surviving are sisters and brothers-in-law, Millie Klostermann, of Epworth, Verna Klostermann and Lorie Klostermann, both of Dubuque, Norma Klostermann, Elmer Tegeler and Gerry Olberding, all of Dyersville, Ted Mock, of Sauk City, Wis., Verdus Burr and Virginia Petty, both of Dubuque, and Mary Ella Merrick, of Muscatine; and many nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents; younger siblings, Irv, Harold, Leroy, Laverne, Elmer Klostermann, Dorothy Hoeger, Edna Tegeler, Erma Olberding and Betty Mock; and a special niece, Jane Ungs.
