Bernice was born on February 10, 1926 on her family’s farm near Roselle, IA, she was the daughter of Joseph and Josephine (Haberl) Steffes. She grew up on the farm and attended Holy Angels Catholic School as a girl. She raised her family in Templeton and worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Anthony Hospital and then the Manning Hospital for many years. Bernice was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Templeton. Bernice also volunteered with the St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary for many years. Bernice is survived by her children and families: Randy (Janice), Beverly, Gloria (Wilson), Rhonda (Dave); a daughter-in-law, Betty (Tom); thirteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Colette “Tootie”; and many nieces and nephews. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Josephine Steffes; a son, Gary Irlmeier and his wife, Joyce; five sisters: Irene Ertz, Betty Wittrock, Florence Kokenge, Hilda Schroeder, and Lucille Galloway; two brothers, Lawrence and Norbert Steffes; and two sons-in-law, Cletus Sporrer and Jerry Anthony.
