Bernice was born September 16, 1931 the daughter of Ludwig and Martha (Kallhoff) Koenig, on the family ranch home southwest of Ewing, Nebraska. Bernice attended Holt (NE.) Bernice was born September 16, 1931 the daughter of Ludwig and Martha (Kallhoff) Koenig, on the family ranch home southwest of Ewing, Nebraska. Bernice attended Holt (NE.) County rural School District #146 through the eighth grade and graduated in 1949 from St. Mary's High School, O'Neill, Nebraska with Normal Training. She taught school for three years before working for Hested 5 and 10 Cent Store Store, Norfolk, Nebraska for three years. On September 1, 1955, Bernice married Jerome Bruno Roth at rural St. John's Church near Clearwater, Nebraska. The couple made their home on a farm northeast of Elgin, Nebraska where Bernice was a homemaker and raised their four children: Kathy, Janis, Lori and Mary Beth. Bernice was a member of St. Boniface Church, Elgein, Nebraska St. Boniface Christian Mothers and served as Treasurer and circle leader. She was also a member of a prayer group. Bernice enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and challenging herself with Sudoku and other word puzzles. Bernice is survived by: daughters and their families: Kathy McPhillips and husband Dan of Lindsay, NE and children Tammy (Luke) Kaufman, Julie (Tim) Campbell, Karla, Michelle and Laura McPhillips; Jan Starman and husband Rick of Petersburg, Nebraska and children Adam, Amanda and Juliann Starman; Lori Beckman and husband Gary of Elgin, Nebraska and children Andy, Makayla and Erin Beckman; Mary Beth Hankla and husband Brian of King George, Virginia and children Jacob and Bethany Hankla; great-grandchildren: Owen, Lucy and Oliver Kaufman of Meadow Grove, Nebraska; sister, MaryAnn Thiele of Clearwater, Nebraska; brothers: Jim Koenig of Ewing, Nebraska and Bob (Florence) Koenig of Lincoln, Nebraska and a host of relatives and friends. Bernice was preceded in death by: parents, husband Jerome Bruno Roth in 2011 and sister Kathryn Sojka. Interment was in the St. Boniface Cemetery, Elgin, NE.
