Description	:	Bernice E. Reitz, 84, of Battle Creek, died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, at Community Pride Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John Lutheran Church with Reverend Richard Snow officiating. Burial will be in Emerick Cemetery in Meadow Grove. Reitz was born on Dec. 18, 1926, in Madison, the daughter of August W. and Marie K. (Buettner) Klug. She moved with her family to Battle Creek and graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1945 as class valedictorian. She worked for the ACS office for three years. Bernice married Donald E. Reitz Feb. 3, 1949, at St. John Lutheran Church. The couple farmed south of Green Garden until moving southwest of Battle Creek in 1951 where they farmed until moving into Battle Creek in 1999. Bernice loved quilting and has made many quilts over the years, including one for each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. As a member of St. John Lutheran Church, she was a member of its ladies aide, a grandmother reader at St. John Lutheran School and was a volunteer at the hospital in Norfolk and Community Pride Care Center. Bernice was an accomplished doll maker and has created her own large collection. Bernice is survived by her children and their spouses, Sherilyn Godden, of Omaha, Loren and Kendra Reitz, of Council Bluffs, Darold and Lisa Reitz, of River Bank, Calif., Katherine and Bruce Papstein, of Ainsworth, Diane Terry, of Norfolk, Rosemary and William Thompson, of Omaha, Frederick and Mollie Reitz, of Norfolk, and David and Melissa Reitz, of Norfolk; four brothers, August "Bud" Klug, Jr., of Norfolk, Melvin Klug, of Omaha, Duane Klug, of Norfolk, and Richard Klug, of Norfolk; two sisters, Loraine Bloebaum, of Columbus, and Marilynn Scheffler, of Albany, Ore.; 33 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, in March 2002; one brother, Virgil; two sisters, Jeannette and Carol; one granddaughter; and two sons-in-law.
