Trenkamp, 72, of Worthington, passed away quietly Thursday, April 23, 2009, at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade, surrounded by family and friends. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 27, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Donald Hertges officiating and the Rev. Richard Gaul as concelebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 26, at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 2 p.m. She was born on June 18, 1936, in Dyersville, daughter of Alvin and Eleanor (Scherbring) Fortmann. She was raised and educated in the Dyersville area. She married Jerome Trenkamp on Aug. 23, 1961, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville. She took pride with Jerome in being Godparents. They farmed and continue to farm west of Dyersville. Bernice was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish. She greatly enjoyed family gatherings, embroidery, dancing, gardening and traveling with Jerome. Surviving are her husband of 47 years, Jerome; three sisters, Alice (Clarence) Weber, of Bernard, Dorothy (John) Bittner, of Guttenberg, and Mary Ann Oberfoell, of Monticello; two brothers, Ralph Fortmann and Ronald (Phyllis) Fortmann, both of Dyersville; a sister-in-law, Rosie Kroeger, of Petersburg; 11 nieces and seven nephews; and many other great-nephews and nieces, family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, LaVern Fortmann; two brothers-in-law, Louis Oberfoell and Gene Kroeger; and a niece, Mary Weber. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Dubuque. Information is available and online condolences may be left for the family at www.kramerfuneral.com. The family wishes to extend its thanks to Dr. Nachtman, Medical Associates, Shady Rest Care Center and Hospice of Dubuque.
