Bernice, daughter of Henry and Mary (Deitering) Heithoff, was born at Elgin, Nebraska. Bernice was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church, graduated from St. Boniface High School, Elgin, Nebraska, and graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in Grand Island, Nebraska. On August 22, 1946, she was united in marriage to Sylvester Paul "Vet" Josten at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Elgin, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Elgin, Nebraska and Bernice worked as a registered nurse at the Neligh (NE.) Hospital. Over the years, she also worked as a dental assistant and as a school nurse. In September 2003, the couple moved to the Willow Ridge Retirement Center, McCook, Nebraska and in June 2007 they entered the Hillcrest Nursing Home, McCook, Nebraska. Bernice was a lifelong member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. She loved the healthcare profession, living a healthy lifestyle, fishing, playing organ, piano and accordion, and spending time with family. Bernice was preceded in death by: parents; husband, Sylvester Paul Josten in 2007; brothers, Alvin and Lavern Heithoff and sister, Beatrice. Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2014 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Elgin, Nebraska, with Revs. Ross Burkhalter and Curtiss Dwyer as co-officiator. Interment was in St. Boniface Cemetery Cemetery, Elgin, Nebraska.
