Bernice was born to George and Lena Brinkman on October 5, 1922 and grew up on their family farm in Sterling, Nebraska. She was one of five siblings. After graduating from high school, she took a job in a Lincoln department store, where she met her future husband, Clarence "Clancy" Stout, who was then in the military. Stout who passed away in Holyoke, Colorado on February 20, 2012. Bernice was born to George and Lena Brinkman on October 5, 1922 and grew up on their family farm in Sterling, Nebraska. She was one of five siblings. After graduating from high school, she took a job in a Lincoln department store, where she met her future husband, Clarence "Clancy" Stout, who was then in the military. She continued working until they were married in the St. John's Lutheran Church in Sterling, Nebraska on July 9, 1944. After a two day honeymoon in Estes Park, they drove to Holyoke to help Clarence's parents finish their wheat harvest, returning to Lincoln when his 15-day furlough from the army was over. They later returned to Holyoke to operate the family farm. To their union, three children were born; Nancy, Roger and Denise, all who were born and raised in Holyoke. Bernice also worked part-time at the Holyoke Rexall Drug store for many years. Bernice was a member of the Holyoke First United Methodist Church. In addition to working on the farm and the drub store, Bernice baked great pies for church functions, and to add to the church's booth at the annual county fair. She loved playing cards, especially Bridge, with family and friends, and for many years after they retired, she and Clarence spent enjoyable winters in Arizona. She was preceded in death by Clarence, after 65 years of marriage, but is survived by their children, Nancy Kennedy, and husband Jack of Holyoke, Roger Stout and wife Barbara of Milton, Georgia, and Denise Wozniak, and husband Jim of Littleton; brother Wilmer, and wife Maude of Sterling, Nebraska; Grandchildren, Anita Dow, and husband DeWane of Holdrege, Nebraska, Dan Kennedy, and wife Leah of Brush, and Celena Kennedy of Sterling, Colorado, Christine Wells, and husband Jeff of Suwannee, Georgia, and Heidi Partlowe of Chandler, Arizona; and six great-grandchildren, Evan and Aaron Dow, Abigail, Hannah and Madilyn Kennedy, Rebecca Jewel Kennedy, Kira Partlowe, and Jordan and Katelyn Wells. Visitation for Bernice will be Thursday, February 23, 2012 9:00 am – 7:00 pm at Gerk Funeral Home, Holyoke, Colorado. Funeral Service will be Friday, February 24, 2012 at 10:00 am at United Methodist Church in Holyoke with Pastor Al Strauss officiating. Interment will follow in the Holyoke Cemetery, Holyoke, Colorado. Memorial Contributions may be made to United Methodist Church of Holyoke. Gerk Funeral Homes is entrusted with the Arrangements
