They moved to Chadron, NE where Frank attended Chadron State College and Bernice worked as Secretary to the Dean of the college until Frank graduated in 1958. Their first child, Chris, was born in July of 1956. They moved to Gering, NE in 1958 where she and Frank have remained. Their second son Gary was born in 1959 and daughter Berlyn in 1965. They first lived in Gering until they purchased a small farm south of town where they refurbished an old farm house, farmed the land and raised various livestock. In 1990 they sold the farm and built a new home at the base of the Scottsbluff National Monument where she lived until her death. They did most of the work and building of these homes by themselves. Bernice was the both the supervisor and first assistant in the many "projects" Frank conjured up. She enjoyed traveling to see family and friends and also enjoyed spending time at the family cabin in the Black Hills of South Dakota. She excelled in hospitality and had a doctorate in visiting! There was always a clean room and a warm meal at the "Craft Motel" for family, friends, or anyone who might possibly one day be a friend. She loved her board games, played a mean hand of cribbage and didn't tolerate cheaters (unless it was her partner). Bernice was dedicated to volunteer work for her church, schools and various community programs. She was especially active in Lutheran Women's Missionary League where she served as President of the local chapter as well as President of the Wyoming District LWML.
