Surviving are six children, Larry (Sharon) Holman of Fostoria, Charlene (the late Mark) Popenberg of Fostoria, Lynn (Wayne) Traxler of Bascom, Gary "Hunky" (Sheryl) Holman of Fostoria, Cindy (Greg) O'Millian of Alvada and Brenda (Donald) Kuhn of New Riegel; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rosalie Holman (the late Eugene), Irene Holman (the late Donald), and Marjorie Cassidy, all of Fostoria; and two sisters-in-law, Arlene Holman of Fostoria, and Catherine Cassidy of Fostoria. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Kevin Holman (1959), three grandchildren, Greg Holman (1977), Jason Holman (1998) and Kimberly Popenberg (2006); four brothers, Mathias, Norbert, Omer and James Cassidy; and a sister, Connie Steinmetz. Bernice was a homemaker and faithful member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria. When she married Hank she became a fulltime dairy farmer's wife and mother of seven children. She loved playing euchre and cooking for anyone that walked through the door at meal time and could produce a meal in just a few minutes' notice. Bernice always had a huge garden to supply her family and did lots of canning. She was also a very religious woman who prayed daily for her children, grandchildren, and any other person that she felt needed some spiritual guidance. Bernice will be remembered as a very strong willed, faithful, independent and generous person. Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2019, at Hoening & Son Funeral Home, 133 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria and 9 – 10 a.m. Monday, at the funeral home. Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, the Rev. Todd Dominique presiding. Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery. A funeral lunch and gathering will then take place in St. Wendelin Parish Hall.
