Porter, who was founder of Hocking Technical Institute/Tri-County Joint Vocational School and of the former Hocking Valley Motor Lodge. Read More	Bernice Luella Porter Died: Saturday, September 02, 2000 Bernice Luella Porter, 88, formerly of The Plains, died Saturday, Sept. 2 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law. Born Oct. 24, 1911, Cochransville, daughter of the late William Pickett and Maude Elizabeth West Marlow of Sistersville, W.Va., she was the widow of Thomas C. Porter, who was founder of Hocking Technical Institute/Tri-County Joint Vocational School and of the former Hocking Valley Motor Lodge. A nurse at Athens State Hospital for 17 1/2 years, she volunteered at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital for 25 years, was a member of The Plains United Methodist Church, past worthy matron of Harrisonville Chapter 255 Order of Eastern Star, a 62-year member of Athens Chapter 175 Order of Eastern Star and a member of White Shrine of Jerusalem. She also was very active in Athens senior citizens' organizations. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Roger William (Ruth Ellen) Hawk of Athens; a son, Thomas Roger Porter of The Plains; five grandchildren, Mrs. Mark Guda (Suzanne Lynee) of Athens, Sheryl Lynell Hawk of Nashville, Tenn., Ronald Mark (Mary Ann) Hawk of New Marshfield, Matthew Paul (Tammy) Hawk of Athens and Charles Franklin Porter of The Plains; and eight great-grandchildren, Hope, Graham, Grey and Harmony Guda of Athens and Jacob, Joshua, Jonathon and Jennifer Hawk of New Marshfield. She also was preceded in death by an infant son, Carl William Porter; and two brothers, Arthur and Eugene Marlow. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. today at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. David Roach of The Plains United Methodist Church and Pastor Malcom Grueser of Mt. Zion UB Church officiating. Burial was in West Union Street Cemetery. The family suggests contributions be made to Athens Area Hospice, P.O. Box 873, Athens, Ohio 45701.
