Bernice was born April 11, 1930, in Hooper to George and Leola (Moeller) Wolf. She grew up on the farm east of Winslow and graduated from Hooper High School in 1948. Maurer, 77, of Fremont, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, died Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at Fremont Area Medical Center. Bernice was born April 11, 1930, in Hooper to George and Leola (Moeller) Wolf. She grew up on the farm east of Winslow and graduated from Hooper High School in 1948. By taking courses at Midland College, she earned her teaching certificate and taught in the Hartung School and the Hewitt School, both in the Immanuel area east of Winslow. On Aug. 7, 1949, the former Bernice Wolf was married to Donald W. Maurer at Immanuel Lutheran Church. They lived in the Immanuel area as she continued teaching and her husband worked for area farmers. Then, in 1952, Bernice and Donald moved into Fremont. Here, she was an Avon representative. She also was employed by the former Montgomery Ward store, Phillips Department Store and Someone Special dress shop. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont and her church circle. One of her favorite pastimes was playing bingo. Those who will miss her and cherish her memory are: her husband, Don; a daughter, Sandra (and husband, Kurt) Brandt of Fremont; three sons, Dale Maurer (and special friend, Carmen Larson) of Hooper, Dean (and wife, Carolyn) Maurer and Dwight (and wife, Lori) Maurer, all of Fremont; nine grandchildren, Kara Jones, Lindsey Maurer (and fiancé, Brad Fisher), Joshua (and wife, Sarah) Brandt, Lacy Brandt (and special friend, Anthony Strong), Jered Campbell (and special friend, Erin Young), Jennifer (and husband, Steve) Buer, Brian and Brent Maurer and Chase Maurer; five great-grandchildren, Lily and Skylar Jones, Lexus and Steven Buer and Marissa Fisher; a sister, Ruth (and husband, Kenneth) Bartling of Fremont; sister-in-law, Loha (and husband, Norman) Kersten of Beemer; and many nieces and nephews. Her funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont with the Rev. Dan Heuer officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in rural Hooper (east of Winslow).
