Hanford Wenatchee, WA Bernie Wayne Hanford, 73, 28 year Wenatchee, WA resident and former longtime Bridgeport, WA resident, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2011, at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee, following an extended illness. He was born on August 8, 1938, in Wenatchee to the late Phillip "Tom" and Effie (Rawley) Hanford. He was raised and attended elementary and high school in Bridgeport, graduating from the Bridgeport High School in 1957. He continued his education at Wenatchee Valley College, followed by attending Eastern Washington College of Education at Cheney. On August 29, 1958, he was married to Jean A. McLean at Brewster. They made their home in Spokane, where Bernie continued his education at Whitworth College, prior to going to work at Value Mart in 1961. He became the Manager of the Drug Department in Spokane and in 1969, he was transferred to their Great Falls, MT store. The following year, he transferred to the Value Mart store in Reno, NV. In 1974, he went to work as the Safety Supervisor for I.M.L. Freight Lines, (Inter Mountain Lines), in Reno. He remained there until injuries received in an accident in 1982, forced him to step down. They moved to make Wenatchee their permanent home in 1983, and in 1988, they opened Ed's Pro Lube, located on South Mission Street in Wenatchee, now Jiffy Lube. He and his son, Ed, operated their business until selling in 1996. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Maiden Lane Chapel, Mission Ridge Ward and was a former member of the B.P.O.E. # 1186. He enjoyed being with his family, baseball and was a great catcher, sports, especially car races, building cars, camping and snow skiing while he was able. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jean A. Hanford of Wenatchee; two daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Mark Gibson of DeSoto, MO and Dianna and Jack Snyder of Waterville; one son, Eddie Hanford of Wenatchee; nine grandchildren, Sara and Russell Monk, both of Waterville, John Monk of Wenatchee, Douglas Monk of Bellingham, WA, Joshua (April) Gibson of Memphis, TN, Matthew (Lisa) Gibson of Honolulu, HI, Ashley Chambers of Key Bay, WA, and Curtis and Tiana Hanford, both of Ohio; and three great-grandchildren, Drew and Cody Gibson, both of Memphis, TN and Kierra Rainbolt of Waterville. He was preceded in death by his parents. A Commemoration Service will be held on Friday, December 9, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at the Maiden Lane Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Wenatchee, with Douglas Clay of the Stake Presidency presiding. Viewing will be in the Relief Society Room, beginning at 9:00 a.m. The Interment will be later in the Paradise Hill Cemetery at Brewster. Arrangements are in the care of Heritage Memorial Chapel, East Wenatchee.
