Hanson was born November 10, 1914 in Kidder, SD. She was the second of five girls born to Peder and Mathilda (Hauger) Hanson. She spent her early years in South Dakota, until moving to Grand Forks. Berniece married Donald J. Endres on August 5, 1940 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Fargo, ND. Hanson was born November 10, 1914 in Kidder, SD. She was the second of five girls born to Peder and Mathilda (Hauger) Hanson. She spent her early years in South Dakota, until moving to Grand Forks. Berniece married Donald J. Endres on August 5, 1940 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Fargo, ND. They were approaching their 74th wedding anniversary when Don died earlier this year, and had many great years of shared experiences. Berniece graduated from Nettleton Commercial College in South Dakota in 1937. She worked in Sioux Falls, SD in the finance business, before starting her own finance business, People’s Finance, in Grand Forks. She also opened sites in Billings, MT and Sioux Falls, SD. She was an intelligent businesswoman; with an entrepreneurial spirit. She and her husband, Don, owned many other business ventures. She genuinely cared about the people she interacted with and her friends and family admired her quiet, amiable, gentle spirit. She lived most of her life in Grand Forks. She was a long time and active member at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. She was active at St. Michael’s School, where her two children were students, and was president of the PTA. Until recent years, she spent the winters in Mesa, AZ and the summers at Maple Lake, MN. She spent the last 9 years living in the Minneapolis area, aging gracefully. Although clouded by dementia in recent years, her gentle, attentive and loving demeanor remained, giving us a glimmer of the person we knew and loved. She loved to spend her time visiting with friends, traveling, reading, doing crossword puzzles, and enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a very big heart. Her love for others was a true reflection of her love of God. She had a strong faith, prayed often, and always gave of herself. She was a full-blooded Norwegian, a heritage that she proudly claimed. She is survived by her children, Mike (Peggy) Endres, Grand Forks, ND, Barb (Jeff) Hoffmann, Bloomington, MN; grandchildren, Scott Ross, Scott (Lauren) Endres, Matt Endres, Kyle Endres, Mitch Hoffmann, Katie Hoffmann, Michaela Hoffmann; a great-grandson, Will Endres and a great-granddaughter, Faye Ross; sisters, Migs Sommers, Barb (Bud) Entringer, & Patricia Erickson. Her husband, Donald, her parents and her sister, Ruth Burns, preceded her in death. Memorials may be sent to: St. Michael’s Bridge Builders, 520 North 6th Street, Grand Forks, ND 58203. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 18, 2014 in St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND. Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday with a 6:30 p.m. rosary service and 7:00 p.m. vigil service in the Historic Norman Funeral Home-Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel.
