Bert was born December 3, 1931 in Farnam, NE, son of Fred Willis Callahan and Mollie (Conley) Callahan. Bert grew up in the Hills south of Brady. He attended Jeffery Queen Country School south of Jeffery Lake until the 6th grade. Due to a horse ridding accident that injured his leg, he was forced to quit school. Read More	Bert Callahan, 78, of Brady, Nebraska, died June 12, 2010 at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital in Gothenburg, NE. Bert was born December 3, 1931 in Farnam, NE, son of Fred Willis Callahan and Mollie (Conley) Callahan. Bert grew up in the Hills south of Brady. He attended Jeffery Queen Country School south of Jeffery Lake until the 6th grade. Due to a horse ridding accident that injured his leg, he was forced to quit school. After a lengthy recovery, He went to work on the family farm and then later started working for Healey Feed Mill. On March 24, 1956 he married Carrie Joan Anderson at the Methodist parsonage in Arnold. Bert and Carrie lived in Brady, Nebraska. Bert and Carrie lived in Gothenburg from 1956 to 1962. They then moved to Brady in 1962, where they resided until his death. Bert worked as a Mechanic for Healey Feed Mill and Stebbins Implement. He was a member of the Brady Fire Department, serving as Fire Chief for a number of years. Bert enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking and gardening. Surviving are daughters - Donna (Buddy) Anderson of Gothenburg, NE; Tammy Jo Callahan of Brady, NE; son - Randy Callahan of Gothenburg, NE; brother, Paul "Bud" Callahan of Brady, NE; granddaughters: Angela (Cliff) English, Jennifer (Derreck) Furse, Cheri (Eddie) Mayers, Ann (Deacon) Howell, Angel Anderson, Candy Anderson, Jakeh (Jake) White, 17 great grandchildren, sisters-in-law - Mary (Adrian) Szwanek of North Platte, NE; Ruth Callahan of Gothenburg, NE; Joan Anderson of Gothenburg, NE; Joan Anderson of Denver, CO; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Bert was preceded in death by his wife Carrie Joan Callahan on April 10, 2010, parents Fred Willis and Mollie Callahan; siblings: Willis "Bill" John Callahan, Ambrose "Pat" Patrick Callahan, Fredrick "Fritz" James Callahan, Julia "Irene" Lind, Josephine "Amy" Lind, "Mary" Rose Thibodeaux, and infant sisters Lillian Callahan, and Hazel Mary Gertrude Callahan.
