Bert died Tuesday, July 7, at North Suburban Medical Center in Thornton, CO. A time to sign the guest book from 2:00 to 5:00 pm, Thursday at the funeral home. Bert F. Brothers Jr., was born on October 9, 1938 at Wabash, IN, on a farm to Bert F. Sr. and Gladys (Metzger) Brothers. He was raised and attended school in Peru, IN, graduating in 1957. After school he entered the US Army on May 25, 1957 and was stationed at Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs, CO. He was married to JoAnn Eldredge on December 21, 1957. He then was stationed in Germany February 1958 and JoAnn joined him there in February 1959. They then moved to Ft. Riley, KS in November 1960 and he received his honorable discharge. They moved to Aberdeen in April 1961. He was employed by Wright and Sudlow contractors for a short time and then at Hyman Freight Ways where he was a dock man and driver. After an injury he went into sales and later was a terminal manager. He retired in October 1995. He kept active by working for Service Master for 3 years. JoAnn died on October 30, 2002. Bert moved to Las Cruces, NM in September 2003. He married Lora Rutherford on November 4, 2004 in Las Cruces. Bert and Lora then moved to Commerce City, CO in 2011. Bert was a past member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Aberdeen where he served on church council. He also taught Sunday School for 18 years. He was assistant scoutmaster for Boys Scout Troop #51. He was a member of the James Valley Model Railroad Club. He loved to watch his son and grandsons play hockey and enjoyed camping. Grateful for having shared Bert's life are his wife, Lora Brothers, Northglenn, CO, one son, Brian Brothers, Aberdeen, two daughters, Deb Teal, Garretson and Pam Brothers, Aberdeen, step-daughter Diane (Cairo) Lopez, Commerce City, CO, step-son, David (Lori) Ferris, Denver, CO, one sister, Jackie Smith, Wabash, IN, three grandsons, Jim, Charlie and John (Katrin) Teal, step-grandchildren, Jeremy Trujillo, Andy Clark, Robert Ferris, Katelynn (Dan) Ferris and Katherine (Billy) Soderborg, three great- grandchildren, Jacob, Easton and Lilly Teal and two step-great-grandchildren, Asher Ferris and Liam Soderborg. Preceding Bert in death are his first wife, JoAnn Brothers, parents, Bert and Gladys (Metzger) Brothers, Sr., and sister, Judith Etling. - Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home
